Hello! You've reached Dr. Shepard. Please keep in mind that this inbox is not secured by HIPAA standards. Leave a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can! Thank you!
[Takame's accent was a step below British mixed with something vaguely Japanese. And much more blank.]
My name is Takame Kesi. I understand that you are familiar with the creatures found in Kanto? One made the decision to accompany me and I'd like to know more about them so I may care for them properly.
You found a Pokemon?! Awww, and one bonded with you?! That's so cute! Of course I can help with that. My own partner just arrived from Professor Oak, so it'll be nice to know that there are others around she can make friends with! Do you happen to know what species you have?
[He called to something away from the speaker, then switched the feed to video. Hello Sorey, here is a very scaly (moreso than normal) man with an Eevee hanging off his right shoulder.]
That is part of why I contacted you, in fact. I've called him Sakuya, but I am unsure of the species or anything else about him. [Takame assumed the Eevee was male only through a game of "blink twice if". But hey, gender neutral name.]
[Sorey switches on video as well out of respect. His Comfey, Alice, is hovering over his shoulder to look at Takame and Sakuya with curiosity. The brunet squints a little at Sakuya, studying him a little before smiling and nodding.]
Yep, that's a male Eevee! Aw, he looks like a sweetheart.
[Alice gives a chirp in agreement.]
Pokemon have a range of intelligence, but most of them are about as smart or smarter than a parrot. Eevees tend to love apples as a treat, but they're omnivorous so they'll eat a wide range of food. I can ask HQ to see if they can send you a more detailed care guide for your little partner, if you'd like?
Ah. [Sakuya made an equally curious noise seeing Sorey's Comfey. It looked like... a set of flowers? These creatures came in all sorts of forms, it seemed.
It was with a hum that Takame took the time to jot down what Sorey shared. A harder feat than normal seeing as his writing hand was the broken one. He ought to be thankful for being forced into ambidexterity.]
I see. If you would, I'd greatly appreciate it. He chose to follow me out of Kanto, I'd like to provide the best quality of life I can for him.
[Said with a light nod that again, Sakuya imitated.]
[Alice nudges Sorey and he grins somewhat sheepishly.]
Oh, terribly sorry, this one's name is Alice! She's a Comfey. They're little healers who thrive off of fresh flowers, even rejuvenating dead or dying ones they come across. Her body color is quite rare, though, as normally you'll find them with green bodies rather than blue.
["Fey!" She chirps delightedly.]
Ah, ahem.... Absolutely! I'll put in for that guide and let you know when it comes in. [The brunet grins.] He's taken such a shine to you already. Oh, and so that you're aware, Eevee can undergo a process called evolution. That's when a Pokemon grows stronger and undergo a change in appearance. Not all of them do, for one reason or another, but your little partner has the potential to evolve into multiple types depending on what conditions are met. It'll all be part of your care guide, so don't fret!
Alice. A good name. [Said giving her a slight bow of his head. Politeness even to Pokemon! And of course, Sakuya followed suit. He'd already taken after Takame, clearly.]
Hmm... I see. How interesting. [He looked at his Eevee, idly wondering what he may become with a tilt of his head. Three guesses what Sakuya did in response and the first two don't count.]
Thank you, Dr. Rosewood. This will be a great help. [To himself:] Hm. I'll pass it onto Waver as well...
Ah, pardon me. A friend of mine had an Eevee of his own follow him as well and I thought to share the guide with him. He was the one who mentioned you, in fact.
[Alice chirps and rotates like a wheel cheerfully in response to the bow.]
You're more than welcome!
[Sorey tilts his head and Alice tilts with him, though she's doing it less out of curiosity and more because it's fun to her. At the explanation about Waver having an Eevee as well, the brunet smiles and nods.]
Oh, then I'd be happy to get a copy for Waver, too! I hope these little Eevee bring you both a lot of joy.
Then an awkward silence as he fidgeted with the cast on his arm off screen. Something Sakuya gave him a worried look about, prompting him to stop. He cleared his throat.]
Ah, this... isn't the only reason I contacted you actually.
[Sorey waits patiently, despite the awkward silence. He just pets his adorable Comfey friend to her absolute delight. At the clearing of Takame's throat, the brunet's full attention is on him.]
What would you like to talk about, Takame? Or do you prefer if I'm more formal with you?
No, Takame is fine. [Preferred, even. Whatever it took for people to not be intimidated by him.
Again he went quiet for a bit.]
You offer your services as a, ah... Psy... Mm. [He mumbled trying to recall the word, making very clear that English was not his first language for once. "Sai... saiko? Saikolo...?"]
[He waits patiently again, though he hears that Japanese sounding accent. He's not entirely sure that it is Japanese, but it sounds fairly similar. At Takame's question, Sorey nods.]
[An archaic form of it, but one close enough he spoke with his boyfriend in it regularly and it was understood.
The only indicator Takame gave that he was a bundle of nerves was off screen with his aggressively twitching tail that Sakuya hopped down to bap at. It's good that Sorey was so patient with all these long pauses.]
I. Was curious about... taking you up on your services. I'm unsure of how they work in practice but give what I... [Have had to deal with for his entire life, not just in this past month. He sighed quietly. Kami, why was this so nerve wracking?]
I believe I can benefit from speaking with a specialist.
[A combination of his training and general personality gives him almost a saint's patience. Sorey waits, then nods with a small smile.]
That's understandable. It does involve us having a conversation each session, but my job is to help you in those conversations. It won't be a straight path forward, though. You'll take some steps back or go off on a different road for a bit, but that's okay and normal.
If you'd like Sakuya with you each session, that's also perfectly fine by me and my office!
I see. Such is the way of any journey. [Be it literal or figurative. Looking at it in that way made it a little less intimidating. Only a little. There was a difference in seeking new frontiers and the mind palace.
Sakuya being brought up caused the Eevee to hop back up onto the table next to Takame who gave a sort of sympathetic expression.]
Mm. Perhaps I will, if he would like to come. [He gave the Eevee some pet pets.] It won't be very pleasant to hear though, my little friend.
[As if in response, Sakuya nodded while nuzzling against Takame's scaly hand. His expression softened at the Eevee, as if trying to will a smile that never came.
Unmistakably in Japanese, he thanked his little friend before his attention returned to Sorey.]
Hmm... My nights are often busy with work, and my afternoons often just as much with another job. I am up early every day, so I believe the mornings during the week would be best.

Yes, that's right.

Pleasant or not, I get the feeling that little Sakuya wants to be there for every step of your journey. Alice was the same way, honestly.
[She chirps and cuddles up to the brunet's cheek. He grins as he carefully pets her little body. His attention returns to Takame, though.]
Do you have a particular day and time you want to have therapy sessions with me?
